Hermann Schinagl Hermann Schinagl

Born in late 1967 in Graz, Austria.

Graduated at Pestalozzi Gymnasium in Graz 1986 and got my degree of Diplom Engineer in Computer Science in 1996 at Graz University of Technology.

Got married in 1997 with Gerhild and since 2003 I am a proud father of our twins Eva and Georg.

Career
While at Graz University of Technology I did a lot of firmware development as a freelancer for embedded systems which are now used in the entertainment sector. Furthermore I was Unix system administrator for Solaris and FreeBSD boxes.

1995/1996 During that period I wrote my masters thesis for SimTech Thermodynamic Simulations, which included work about Compiler Technology and Symbolic Computing.

1996 - Since March 1996 I am working for AVL in Graz at the testbed automation division. At AVL I developed several pieces of WindowsNT software for 5 years on the PumaOpen project.
Now I am the owner of the build process for all the PumaOpen branches, and I am mainly involved in to software quality concerns and tree management.

On occasion I am holding classes at Campus02 Fachhochschule for basic computer science.

Computer interests There are many computer hobby projects, I have done. Many of them are related to 'WindowsNT close to systemlevel' programming, eg the HardlinkShellExtension project, or the QuerySemaphore stuff. A selection of documented stuff can be found here.

There are other small hobby projects on other areas like the Lemmings Level converters, or the whole assembly language software stuff for embedded systems.

Furthermore tracking the ongoing development of Mozilla and FreeBSD project with respect to the software development process and operating system architecture is also of interest to me.

Hobbies Tinkering around our combo resulted in many small extensions and fixups to the house, which needed a lot of engineering to make those extensions happen. Photos of the outcome can be found here.

Seems my grandfather, who was a carpenter, donated some important genes to me, so I am attracted by wood work, which resulted in many useful things, like a twins craddle and misc stuff that is used in the house.

Living in an estate needs some organisational and social structures to be held up. So I am the Obmann (something similar to a CEO, but I am not paid for ;-) of the IG Sonnenhang, which coordinates and runs several things in our estate.

Whats left of my spare time I fill with sports, mostly squash and skiing, which I like a lot.
